Chopped EFB is whole empty bunch run through a chipper. Pieces are shorter for screws. Moisture stays high. Chopping does not move the fuel toward PKS calorific value.
Admine briefs calorific value above 1,700 kcal/kg and moisture max 50% by weight. Sample at receiving; rain and mill cycles push moisture around.
Plants with tight yards or long-fiber bridging often want chopped bunch. Plants with their own size-reduction may take whole EFB and chip on site.
Give these figures to boiler engineering before changing the mix with PKS or fiber. Do not copy whole-EFB moisture caps onto a chopped-EFB contract.
